ON THE TURNTABLE: Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies

Short, sharp and frank reviews from a confessed vinyl junkie. I’ll be posting my most loved records and most recent purchases right here for your perusal every week.

Recently released reissue of the gorgeous debut album from Jason Pierce’s long-running Spiritualized project. Originally released in ‘92 after the magnificent Spacemen 3 called it a day and went their very separate ways, this was Jason’s first outing under the Spiritualized banner, and I don’t think I’ve ever known an album title to be more fitting than this one.

At the time of writing, I’m a long way off the stoned teenager I was when I first heard it, but it still hits me the same, and it’s such an easy album to get lost in. It’s full to the brim of beautifully arranged, psychedelic hymns that somehow manage to soothe every last bone in your body. Sans spliff it still works after almost 30 years, wonderful music.
