This is the second album from Portland, Oregon’s Eric Sabatino’s project Rayon (although he’s now gotten rid of the prefixed ‘Miss’).
Eric plays everything on the album besides the drums (played brilliantly by Thomas Hoganson) and sings almost everything apart from the Cocteau Twins-Esque’ Blue Nights’, where his wife Anna steps in on vocal duties.
The rest of the album is much more Post Punk, like an early Stone Roses (Garage Flower era) with hints of early Cure records with a bit of ESG thrown in for good measure.
This is spiky music with attitude, it could quite easily have been made in 1983, and that’s certainly no bad thing. Eric quite clearly knows his onions and has studied his influences well. An excellent sophomore release.
