ON THE TURNTABLE: Lovescene - Suits You / Overnight

Short, sharp and frank reviews from a confessed vinyl junkie. I’ll post my most loved records and recent purchases here for your perusal weekly.

If you’re looking for some fine Mancunian Soul, you’ve come to the right place. The latest release on Band On The Wall Records is this neat little 7″ from Manchester’s Lovescene. The A-side could quite easily have been taken from the 1973 ‘Diana & Marvin’ album, a proper lush, lover’s lament Soul ballad, whilst the flip side is a stunning little mover engineered by Dub Phizix.

Proof, once again, that Manchester isn’t only about feather cuts and gobby lead singers. Pops Roberts and friends know how to get their groove on. If you get a chance to see these lot live, get on it, they’re superb.
