ON THE TURNTABLE: Julien Dyne - Modes

Short, sharp and frank reviews from a confessed vinyl junkie. I’ll be posting my most loved records and most recent purchases right here for your perusal every week.

Fifth studio album from the forward-thinking Nu Jazz/House/African Rhythm percussion pioneer. The New Zealander has certainly made his mark when it comes to this sound, and this album further cements that.

He teams up with Lord Echo, Ladi 6 and Joe Dukie from Fat Freddy’s Drop, to name just a few, to create what is possibly his best album to date here.

If you dig chilled House and funky Jazz with a Balearic feel, this is the album you’re looking for. It’s got Summer BBQ written all over it, and every good home deserves a copy.
