ON THE TURNTABLE: Jon Batiste – We Are

ON THE TURNTABLE: Jon Batiste - We Are

Short, sharp and frank reviews from a confessed vinyl junkie. I’ll be posting my most loved records and most recent purchases right here for your perusal every week.

Recently released, eighth studio album from the multitalented Louisiana Soul/Jazz maestro. To say Batiste knows his onions would be a massive understatement, and he pulls it all out of the bag on ‘We Are’, his most accomplished release to date.

The album is full-on Soul one minute, then Blues and Jazz the next, mixing it up with a bit of Hip Hop, Funk and Swing for good measure. Batiste isn’t short on friends either. Hot 8 Brass Band, Zadie Smith, PJ Morton all feature, not to forget everyone and their mother on the superb title track and album opener ‘We Are’. That said, talent runs supreme throughout.
