ON THE TURNTABLE: Eddie Chacon - Pleasure, Joy & Happiness

Short, sharp and frank reviews from a confessed vinyl junkie. I’ll be posting my most loved records and most recent purchases right here for your perusal every week.

Debut solo album from one half of Charles & Eddie, no I wouldn’t lie to you. I’m sure those of a certain age reading this, will remember the global hit ‘Would I Lie To You’ by Soul Pop duo Charles & Eddie back in the early 90s. Fast forward 30 years and Eddie Chacon sans Charles, who sadly died of cancer in 2001, is back with an other worldly Alt Soul gem.

‘Pleasure, Joy & Happiness’ was originally released in late 2020 but has been lovingly repressed here on a blue vinyl edition. Eddie certainly has plenty of stories to tell and does so with the help of John Carroll Kirby (Solange & Frank Ocean collaborator) on this magnificent slice of ethereal, minimalistic Soul.

The result sounds like Marvin Gaye in an alternate Universe, with a stripped-back, Lo-Fi production and quite simply, nothing like I’ve heard before or ever likely to again. A highly recommended, beautiful album and a must for fans of Soul music with a twist.
