ON THE TURNTABLE: Amerigo Gazaway - The Notorious J.B.’s: The B.I.G. Payback

Short, sharp and frank reviews from a confessed vinyl junkie. I’ll be posting my most loved records and most recent purchases right here for your perusal every week.

Amerigo is best known for his mash-up album featuring Marvin Gaye and Mos Def (which is also superb), but this time around, it’s James Brown & Biggie’s turn.

I’ve always loved Biggie’s flow, and style and James Brown is second to none as far as I’m concerned, so this was a no brainer for me, and I certainly wasn’t disappointed.

As much as I love ‘Ready to Die’, I’ve always wanted to hear Biggie with a bit more ‘ooommpph’, and you can’t get more ‘oooommpph’ than a James Brown record. Essential head-nodding jams.
