Northern Irish Music Prize winner KITT PHILIPPA releases new single and EP ‘You’ out Today

KIT PHILIPPA releases new video for 'Human' and announces 'You EP' out May 17th

Following on from the success of debut singles ‘Human’ and ‘Grace’ coupled with the winning of the Northern Irish Music Prize – Single of the Year 2018, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Kitt Philippa (KP) now gears up for the release of their new single and EP release both titled: ‘You’ scheduled for release Friday, May 17th on Paragon Records. The single has already garnered UK radio support from Huw Stephens (Radio 1) and Mary Anne Hobbs (6 Music). BBC Entertainment News in their review of The Great Escape proclaimed “You can instantly hear why Hozier said “impressive is too weak a word” to describe their music.”

Speaking about the new single, Kitt says “’You’ is a combination of thoughts but its output is a love that is not obviously tangible; love can seem distant but still be present; it can almost be imaginary, or like a memory. It was from that context ‘You’ was written. Some of the lyrics circulate around the idea of space, alluding at times to a perceived ’emptiness’; but love flows between and through us and leaves its trail.”

The four-track ‘You EP’ also includes previous singles ‘Human’ which is an emotive plea, a call to be close and to be kind, to rediscover that most beautiful denominator within all of us; our humanity, and ‘Grace’ a reductive reflection on a love most innocent and true, and another brand new song ‘Lion’ which is a track about courage and the seeking of renewal.

In recent weeks Kitt released a brand new video for the award-winning single ‘Human’. Directed by duo Luke Daly and Nathan Fagan of Luna (Gavin James, Walking On Cars). Watch the new video for ‘Human’ HERE

Although growing up largely in a classical music environment, Kitt Philippa’s influences have been broad, and their songwriting and performances reflect a craft steeped in contemporary urban and digital soundscapes.

KP has performed music with The Ulster Orchestra, has been featured on the playlists of Mary Anne Hobbs, Tom Robinson, Huw Stephens, Philly Taggart, Tom Ravenscroft, RTE 2FM and has silenced audiences in Berlin, London, Dublin, and Belfast: the place currently called home.
