Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have today announced ‘Flying On The Ground’ as the second single to be taken from the UK No.1 album ‘Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2011-2021)’.

Marrying irresistible melodies with Motown-esque backing vocals, strings and brass, ‘Flying On The Ground’ is yet another classic slice of songwriting to add to Noel Gallagher’s burgeoning songbook. The song, produced by Noel Gallagher & Paul ‘Strangeboy’ Stacey, was recently described by CLASH magazine as, “Uncomplicated, upbeat, infectious, an instant where soul and rich backing vocals come together”, “Breezy Style Council-esque” by MOJO and “As good as anything he’s ever written” by British GQ.

Speaking of the new single, Noel says: “Flying On The Ground is literally the best thing I’ve released since the last thing I released. If Burt Bacharach wrote for Motown this is what it would sound like … Only not as good … Obviously.”

‘Flying On The Ground’ is accompanied by a video starring actors Matt Smith and Gala Gordon. Taking inspiration from French New Wave cinema, it also features a cameo appearance from Noel himself. Directed by Dan Cadan & Jonathan Mowatt for Rankin, the video forms a companion piece to the previously released video for ‘We’re On Our Way Now’. Watch BELOW:

Out now via Sour Mash Records, ‘Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2011-2021)’ is a definitive 18-track Best Of package, and a timely reminder of the breadth and depth of songs from the first decade of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Curated and compiled entirely by Noel, the tracklisting encompasses songs from High Flying Birds’ three albums (‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’, ‘Chasing Yesterday’ and ‘Who Built The Moon?’) and the three acclaimed EPs (‘Black Star Dancing’, ‘This Is The Place’ and ‘Blue Moon Rising’).

‘Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2011-2021)’ continues a consecutive run of four UK No.1 albums for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, cumulatively selling over 2.4 million albums internationally in the process. The album also marks a staggering twelve UK No.1 albums across Noel’s career.
