NI rockers SILENT RUNNING go back to the future as they prepare to support Simple Minds in Belfast

Silent Running

The last time Silent Running shared the stage with Simple Minds was in 1984, when the Belfast band toured the UK and Ireland with Jim Kerr, Charlie Burchill and co. to promote their debut album ‘Shades of Liberty’. The Minds were on the crest of a wave, having just released the album ‘Sparkle in the Rain’ which spawned classics like ‘Waterfront’, “Up on the Catwalk’ and ‘Book of Brilliant Things’.

Simple Minds are in the midst of their hugely successful ’40 years of hits’ tour, but Silent Running lead singer Peter Gamble insists the Belfast gig isn’t simply an exercise in nostalgia.

“We’ve just released our new album ‘Follow the Light’, and the reviews have been absolutely incredible, so we’re looking forward to playing songs from that to a big Belfast crowd. I’ve heard tracks from the new Simple Minds album ‘Direction of the Heart’, and they sound amazing. We had a blast touring with Simple Minds. They’re incredible live and were really supportive to us back in the 80s, so we’re really excited about the gig.”
