MODEST MOUSE – LAMPSHADES ON FIRE

MODEST MOUSE - 'THE LONESOME CROWDED WEST'/ 'THIS IS A LONG DRIVE.....' REISSUES

Modest Mouse fans have had a long agonizing wait for new material. It has been almost 8 years since the breathtaking We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank was released in 2007. The agony looks to end with the announcement that the new album, Strangers to Ourselves is slated for release March 3, 2015. Coupled with the announcement was the release of preview single Lampshades on Fire. The song only whets the appetite for the soon to be main course album.

Lampshades on Fire takes up where We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank left off. Modest Mouse fans can file the tune somewhere between We Got Everything, People as Places as People, and even Float On, that Modest Mouse classic. The song is hook laden, and accessible, dare I say even radio friendly. The song has been perfected live by Modest Mouse in the last four years of touring.

It is Modest Mouse doing its quirky best, and as usual Isaac Brock entices the listener with spot on lyrics. “Find another planet where we’ll make the same mistakes.” “Pack up the gear move to the next place, where we will make the same mistakes.” Then the killer aside “tough love will kill you all.” All of this a take on fiddling while Rome is burning, be the topic the environment, societal problems, or terrorism. If the much anticipated album is as good as this single we are all in for a treat, Mark the release date.
