MELANIE C premieres Joe Goddard remix of new single, 'Who I Am' - Listen Now

Melanie C has today released a remix of new single ‘Who I Am’ from the legendary Joe Goddard (Hot Chip, 2 Bears). ‘Who I Am’ – and its affecting video, dissecting the past, present and future of Sporty Spice – launched recently to widespread acclaim, with the track quickly surpassing a million views and going top 10 on iTunes charts across Europe, South America, and the UK.

Having also presented Billie Eilish with her BRIT Award and appeared as a castaway on a recent episode of Desert Island Discs, Melanie will also announce further quarantined live-streams soon, which have already featured a cameo from Melanie B and brought fans around the world together.

‘Who I Am’ is given a pulsing, late-night rework from Joe Goddard today, taking the track’s lyrically-raw confessional to escapist heights. It’s another in a series of pinch-yourself moments for Melanie, who recalls being “a massive Hot Chip and Joe Goddard fan for many years. Their music was always a reference point for my upcoming album, so when he agreed to do a remix of ‘Who I Am’, it was a dream come true, literally. I couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out. Joe applied his gorgeous pop lilt, on a track I already loved, giving it a new and alternative life from the original, which is just as exciting!”

Ask Melanie C ‘Who I Am’ in 2020, and you will find a woman who has returned to the global pop stage on her own unequivocal terms. A vital voice in the modern discourse on depression, body positivity, and the LGBTQ community, her trailblazing influence has in fact never been more apparent. And now – just over 20 years on from her acclaimed solo debut, ‘Northern Star’ – Melanie appears to be evolving her sound as much as she is looking back to her roots: she did, after all, cut her teeth not just in the biggest girl band in the world, but in the club-culture surrounding her childhood of Widnes (where she’d sneak off and attend Prodigy raves). With over 100 million records sold and multiple BRIT, Ivor, Billboard and Olivier Awards under her belt, ‘Who I Am’ nonetheless feels like new, more assured ground for Melanie C: part unapologetic banger, part attitude to live by, and a glorious new chapter for Girl Power.
