Having last week made a triple whammy of announcements; releasing their brand new single – the bombastic ‘ Juliet’, announcing debut album ‘Ursa Major’ (out May 22nd through Killing Moon Records) and a run of UK headline dates for October 2020, not to mention being confirmed to play numerous events at SXSW festival in Austin, Texas including the official BBC Introducing Stage. Marsicans (“MAR-sick-anz”) continue to build on their relationship with long-term visual collaborator – Leeds based Sodium Films – today releasing the music video for their latest single ‘Juliet’.

“We knew we wanted to do a performance video for ‘Juliet’ in order to try and capture the energy of the song, but under the direction of all-round lovely man Phil Barber of Sodium Films, that vision vastly expanded,” explains Marsicans bassist/vocalist Rob Brander. “ The video became an extension of the album’s artwork concept, where we built a large metal frame and hung up colourful shapes, designed and created by our long-time friend and collaborator Liv Hodder.

On the album cover, the shapes loosely replicate the constellation Ursa Major. Phil had the wild idea of taking elements of the album artwork and shooting in an array of locations, in and around Leeds, that are synonymous with the band. As well as the video, these locations were used to capture the artwork elements in different settings for each individual single. There were a lot of 5 am starts to capture the right light, and a lot of cold fingers trying to build frames in the drizzle – a lot of work but we are really proud of this one!”

Having been tipped by The Guardian in their 50 Best New Artists for 2020, fast-rising UK indie band Marsicans new single ‘ Juliet’ picks up from their recent release ‘ Can I Stay Here Forever (pt.II ) ’ – which was the first single to drop from their debut album ‘ Ursa Major ’. It was “Record Of The Week” on BBC Introducing in West Yorkshire and picked up plays on BBC Radio 1, John Kennedy X-posure and the Radio X evening playlist. Spotify support came by way of New Music Friday, All New Rock, The Indie List and New Alternative. Deezer playlisted on Brand New UK and Indie Jukebox and Apple Music gave it a global add to Kebab on the Nightbus. It also featured on BT Sport’s Weekly Goal Show.

Marsicans will be hitting the road in October with a run of UK album tour headline shows to support the release of ‘Ursa Major’, including dates in London, Glasgow, Manchester and hometown Leeds. Tickets on sale now.
