LONELADY - Announces summer & autumn tour / Listen to 'Hinterland' Remix

LoneLady has recently played a headline tour across the UK, and can now announce details of festival appearances throughout the summer and a headline show at London’s Heaven on October 7th, with more UK and Europe dates to be confirmed. Following a series of exceptional reviews for her album and live show, LoneLady has been nominated for The Times Breakthrough award as the Pop representative at this year’s South Bank Sky Arts Awards which will take place on 7th June and air on television on 10th June. A public vote for the category opens on 4th May.

Translating as ”the land behind”, HINTERLAND the album explores the different landscapes of her home, Manchester. The title track conjures Audenshaw, Campbell’s childhood home.

”….this is the land of childhood wonder, and magic, and playful movement..we’d create kingdoms with our imaginations….and thats a big part of what the song is about…

I can’t help but visualise the landscapes of my childhood as I sing it, as if it’s on a flickering, grainy reel of super-8. Its not about nostalgia so much as wanting to keep that unfettered flame of wonder that came more naturally as a child burning somehow.”

Recorded and produced by Campbell in her home studio, she then finished the production with Bill Skibbe, sending her music through an old console that had one previous owner – Sly Stone. Imprinting the dust of 70s funk onto 5 minutes of a machine-groove loop of Linn drums and cello, frazzled guitar solos and choppy rhythms to magic up A-funk, that is, Parliament/Funkadelic, Rufus, Arthur Russell and Rapper’s Delight via the backyards, railways and fields of Audenshaw, a small town in Manchester.
