LIVE REVIEW: MUSE - SSE ARENA, BELFAST 3

Devon boys Muse returned to rock Belfast on Tuesday night with their ambitious Drones tour. They had played the Ulster Hall just over a year ago, but this was the first time they had played the SSE Arena in ten years. The stage show was nothing short of amazing. The Muse lads have definitely been keeping a close eye on recent U2 tours as the Drones stage set up is basically an amalgamation of U2’s 360 and Innocence + Experience shows.

Muse kicked off with Psycho and the always welcoming Belfast crowd went nuts! Large menacing drones circled overhead in various formations around the SSE Arena with an impressive light display throughout. For each song the band moved to different parts of the stage which was placed in the centre of the arena as fans swarmed around it for a great view of the show. There is very little chat to the crowd from Matt Bellamy, but that’s OK as everyone is immersed in the whole spectacle of the show to really care.

The 20 song set-list was littered with epics old and new spanning their whole career from the crowd pleasing Plug in Baby to The Globalist from their recent Drones album. There were a few quieter moments but for the most part it was pure loud overblown rock and roll show. Muse close the show with Mercy and Knights of Cydonia and have everyone singing along. The band walk off stage leaving the Belfast crowd blown away with the  promise that they won’t leave it another ten years before they play the SSE Arena again.

Muse head over to play a string of UK dates before they go to Worthy Farm to headline Glastonbury in June. If it’s anything like what we witnessed in Belfast then it will be nothing short of spectacular. Go see this show, it’s a must!
