Live Review: Kate Nash Goes MENTAL at Portsmouth Gig 2

Despite the title the reference is not to do with Kate shouting at the crowd, it is what her tour was called. Mental. To highlight people’s mental health state and to go and get help if you are worried about any part of your mental state. As she herself suffered from a mental breakdown in 2008.

Working in partnership with the mental health charity MIND, Kate said during her performance at Portsmouth’s Wedgewood Rooms that the amount of people that have contacted her to say they have go to see their local mental health charity since coming to one of her gigs is mind blowing. And she hopes that more will do the same. Wearing what can only be described as swimsuit and fishnet stocking Kate Nash tore through her sets with ease. Constantly going between the stage barrier and crowd keeping security on their toes. All her band wore a jumper reiterating the point of Mental. Her full set and hyperactivity kept the sold-out crowd going for the whole hour and half in a sweltering venue.

Despite not having released any new music since Girl Talk in 2013 you would not think that Kate Nash had simply taken any form of break, due to the constant energy seen by the Foundations artist throughout her set. She did however insist that she has been compiling a potential album to be released sometime soon. Soon though is not what her fans wanted to here. Portsmouth will gladly have her back again as her influence from grunge band Hole is still very much alive and gives the music scene here a much-needed change.
