Green Day w/support from The Interrupters, Leeds First Direct Arena, 05/02/17
It’s been a long 4 years, but it was with great pleasure that Green Day graced the First Direct Arena in Leeds to set off the first of their 3 UK Revolution Radio tour dates with a deafening bang, and a few flames too.
The Berkeley maestros have been though some turbulent times since 2013, but one thing is for sure – their sheer energy and passion for their craft has never faltered. Exploding onto the stage with Know Your Enemy, and catering for all needs with everything from Kerplunk’s Christie Road, to Insomniac’s Armitage Shanks, to the most recent offerings from Revolution Radio, all bases were covered, and no complaints were noted.
Aside from the impressively varied setlist, Green Day’s set included the infamous t-shirt cannon, and the usual audience selection for band accompaniment – a ritual that rightfully never seems to tire. And while Green Day can open a show in style, they can also action a pretty impressive close, as they rounded off the performance with a double encore and a detonation of confetti, all while engulfed in the rapturous reception of an adoring crowd that just wouldn’t be satiated.
