The last time Brian Fallon graced The Olympia with his presence in 2016, he played to a relatively full venue. Just 18 months on, accompanied by the vastly talented Dave and Tim Hause, he sold it out. The Hause brothers opened the set with a beautifully composed rendition of ‘Shaky Jesus’ off Dave’s latest album ‘Bury Me In Philly,’ giving a nod to Brandi Carlile on the way, with a cover of ‘Hold Out Your Hand,’ and a tribute to the late Tom Petty through a rousing, audience-led performance of ‘I Won’t Back Down.’ And who knew we really needed a ukulele version of the controversial ode to the leader of the free world, ‘Dirty Fucker?’ Because we definitely did.

Brian Fallon, accompanied by The Howling Weather opened his set with a hat tip to his newest record’s title track, as he strolled out on stage and sat behind his keyboard to rapturous applause while gradually falling into Sleepwalkers, before launching into the contrasting A Wonderful Life. Incorporating Horrible Crowes material, a varied mix of songs from his pair of solo creations, and a duo of tributes to the mighty Tom Waits and Dire Straights, the setlist was perfectly designed to lend itself to the diverse age range of the Dublin gathering.

Ending with a note-perfect interpretation of U2’s I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For, accompanied by Tim and Dave, the room exploded with love and appreciation for the performance of the evening, closing out The Hause Brothers’ final stop on the tour, and preparing Brian Fallon for his final night in Belfast.
