Live Review: BLOSSOMS LIVE at The Roundhouse

Live Review: BLOSSOMS LIVE at The Roundhouse 1

The VO5 NME Awards Tour 2017 landed in London last night and Blossoms were worthy headliners. The guys from Stockport filled the Roundhouse from floor to ceiling with devoted fans that would be worthy of a band that had been round a decade. Despite only releasing their self-titled debut number one album last year you would think they had been around longer.

Before the gig had even begun the lights when down the crowd started to scream and Black Skinhead started blaring out accompanied with copious flashing lights, ensuring the crowd went absolutely mental before the band had even taken to the stage. Starting with At Most A Kiss the band broke the crowd in gently after their entrance. The crowd sung back the last chorus of Blow leading to the band to completely stop playing and let the crowd take over. The crowd hung on Tom’s every word. “In January 2014, we were playing a gig in The Monarch – who was there?” No one, it seems. The Monarch is a small pub almost directly across the road from the Roundhouse. It only shows how far Blossoms have come in such a small amount of time. From small pubs to a 1,700 capacity venue in a mere 3 years.

BLOSSOMS

Midway through the set Tom said he was bringing out a special guest. It turned out to be lead guitarist Josh’s Dad! Robin Dewhurt sat himself down beside the keyboard and joined Tom in a rendition of My Favourite Room followed by a medley of John Lennon’s Imagine and Oasis’ Half the World Away which had the whole crowd singing along and belting out the classics. After coming back on for an encore – after the crowd were chanting “We want more”. The guys left their best hits till last performing Polka Dot Bones and Deep Grass. Then finishing with their classic Charlemagne (when it was released it was BBC Radio 1’s track of the day and featured on Spotify’s ‘Spotlight on 2016’ list) to which the crowd did not want to end.

BLOSSOMS

Blossoms have proved themselves to be a hard working, down-to-earth band that leave us wanting to hear more. They are on the festival circuit this summer and you can still catch them on the end of the VO5 NME Awards Tour if you haven’t seen them already. You wouldn’t want to miss it. And if last night is anything to go by after just one album we cannot wait to hear the next one!

The dates left for VO5 NME Awards tour with Blossoms are Cardiff, Tramshed (March 25) Norwich, The Nick Rayns LCR UEA (March 27) Birmingham, O2 Academy (March 29) Leeds, O2 Academy (March 30) Newcastle, O2 Academy (March 31) Glasgow, O2 Academy (April 1)
