This gig sold out, got upgraded and then sold out again! Already the night is off to a fantastic start at The Ritz in a cold, rainy Manchester for Lisa Mitchell and headliner Bear’s Den. Chatter and atmospheric music is all I heard while waiting next to the bar for Lisa Mitchell to walk up on the dry ice filled stage with pink and blue lights beaming down, she strolled on shortly after 8pm and by that time a nice flow of revelers had begun wandering in to catch some of her set while waiting for Bears den.

Lisa had the room in the palm of her hand with her wonderful set, she was very polite and its as if the whole room was swaying in sync with the rhythm of her music. There was a complication by song two as Lisa was wanting to sing a Capella and then asked for a different guitar instead, someone shouted from the back of the crowd “Get that girl a f**king guitar” which the majority of the crowd agreed with and yelled.

For someone with such a tranquil persona and being powerful enough to sing without a microphone in that environment was absolutely breathtaking, Lisa sent the entire crowd into silence which was completely enchanting. The 25 year old Australian sung in a very soft voice which captivated me and I’m probably not the only one.

It’s that time everyone has been waiting for, the lights fade down to pitch black, in shock and excitement music lovers scream in anticipation to see the band appear from the back left of the stage! Everyone’s heads turn and they rush towards the edge of the balcony for Bear’s Den, the room slowly built up to an fierce rumble of instruments, throughout their set they demonstrated a great ability to generate a range of emotions for and from the audience, the entire gig was intense and it was lovely to see only a selected few on their phones taking photographs.

After each song there was an almighty cheer, whistling and the clapping of over 1000 people the acoustics bounced around the floor and then up across the balcony. The intimacy of the set for Bear’s Den was something else and everyone seemed to be engrossed in the music. All of this contributed to a completely invigorating evening and it is apparent in the bands bravado, check this band out as soon as possible because they are talented and you’ll be missing out if you don’t!
