LITANY shares video for new single ‘Cream’ - Watch Now!

Litany’s recent Oscar Scheller collab Playlist picked up her biggest wave of attention yet, with support coming from NME, Billboard, The Line of Best Fit, Noctis, EUPHORIA and more. Its success added a new peak to an immensely positive year for the alt-pop artist following the release of ‘Uh-huh’ and its playful, Joe Lycett-directed video, and the news that her breakthrough track ‘Bedroom’ broke the 30 million streams landmark.

Litany continues that rich run of form by sharing her latest single ‘Cream’, together with its official video. It’s a song that strikes a far more reflective mood than the singles that have preceded it, but that change of pace reiterates the fact that Litany can strike at the heart of any emotion that she wishes to express. ‘Cream’ is also a song that gradually reveals hidden layers of depth, ultimately culminating with swirling vocal harmonies and dramatic beats. That soundscape establishes the atmosphere for a story about a romance in which both partner’s expectations are reversed.

“It’s about being in a relationship with someone who was once full of the joys of spring but started to slump further and further into the clutches of depression before you. Without really thinking about it, I wrote it for them as well as myself I guess, as a kind of reassurance that, ‘yes, boys can cry and yes, you can try to push me away in an attempt to conceal your pain but I don’t scare easy, not when it comes to you anyway,’” explains Litany.

Litany co-wrote ‘Cream’ with the song’s producer and solo artist Fyfe as well as James New (Dua Lipa, RAYE).

Directed by Marieke Macklon (who also filmed Litany’s ‘Single Player Mode’), the accompanying video for ‘Cream’ uses simplicity as a virtue. The camera is initially tightly focused on Litany’s face, a stylistic decision that puts the full emphasis of the visual on both the power of her lyricism and the depth of feeling of her performance. It’s a video that thrives on the sheer strength of the song. Watch BELOW:

Fittingly, the video comes as Litany is preparing to make a long-awaited return to live shows. Her first London show in almost two years at the Jazz Cafe on June 26th sold out more than two months in advance. Such phenomenal demand which resulted in the confirmation of a bigger gig at the Scala on September 30th. Any remaining tickets for the show are available here.

Litany’s hook-filled, conversational songwriting explores the ups, downs and in-betweens of relationships in the digital age, with a sound that puts a fresh UK spin on influences such as Robyn, Christine and the Queens, HAIM and Caroline Polachek. After just two EPs and a handful of singles, Litany (Beth Cornell) is connecting with audiences, building radio support at 6 Music and BBC Introducing, and accumulating big stats including almost 75 million streams at Spotify. Most recently, the ‘Uh-huh’ video, which was directed by famous fan Joe Lycett, was honoured with a Silver Screenings selection at the Berlin Music Video Awards.
