LIAM GALLAGHER shares the DJ Premier remix of ‘Diamond In The Dark’

Liam Gallagher

Today sees Liam Gallagher launch the first ever solo remix of his career – and he called upon a top-tier talent in the shape of DJ Premier to make it happen. The legendary East Coast rap producer, renowned for working with an A-Z of iconic artists including Jay-Z, Nas and The Notorious B.I.G. has put his touch on ‘Diamond In The Dark’. The original version of the song features on Liam’s recent #1 album, ‘C’MON YOU KNOW’.

Premier’s interpretation of ‘Diamond In The Dark’ places Liam’s famous vocal style in a completely different production style without drastically reworking the song’s structure – a blend that eludes many big-name remixes. Preemo’s signature scratching and thumping hip-hop beat immediately set it apart from the original, as does the instantly memorable vocal sample. A dominant piano loop and softer vocals add to its gritty groove, heightening the song’s melancholy vibe.

The remix completes the ‘Diamond In The Dark’ EP, which also features the title track, a live version recorded at Knebworth Park, and Liam’s take on John Lennon’s ‘Bless You’.

DJ Premier says, “I have always been a huge fan of remixing songs. To get an opportunity to make one over Liam’s incredible vocal sound and style guided me to making it bounce high like a rubber ball filled with too much air.”

DJ Premier first emerged with the influential hip-hop duo Gang Starr in the late ‘80s before producing for almost all of rap’s big hitters in the ‘90s and early 2000s. He remains hugely in-demand today, with credits for contemporary stars including Kanye West, Drake and J Cole. DJ Premier also formed PRhyme with Royce da 5’9″ and recently dropped the ‘Hip Hop 50: Vol 1’ EP which included features from Nas, Run The Jewels, Joey Bada$$ and more. The EP prompted Rolling Stone to comment, “DJ Premier is proof that hip-hop will remain timeless… No other producer’s compositions personify the elemental structure of hip-hop more than Premier’s.”

2022 has already seen Liam achieve his fourth solo #1 album (and twelfth in total) with ‘C’MON YOU KNOW’ and sell-out two gargantuan shows at Knebworth Park in supersonic speed. His live album, ‘Down By The River Thames’, also charted at #4 in the same week that ‘C’MON YOU KNOW’ was released.

NME praised the Knebworth Park shows as “an epic day in the sun, bringing Oasis’ iconic gigs to the new generation” and Liam takes the experience around the show throughout the remainder of the year as he tours Europe, Australia/New Zealand and South America. His upcoming UK and Ireland gigs continue with major outdoor shows in Dublin (August 27th) and Cardiff (September 15th). Liam will also celebrate the life of his friend Taylor Hawkins when he performs at the Foo Fighters’ tribute concert at Wembley Stadium on September 3rd.
