This year has seen rising Manchester quartet LARKINS make rapid headway with their arena-scaled blend of anthemic indie and synth-powered alt-pop. Their two releases of 2019 – the ‘TV Dream’ EP and the ‘Not Enough Love’ single – have already amassed 5 million plays. That huge potential has been further underlined with support from Radio 1 (Jack Saunders), Beats 1 (Zane Lowe), BBC Introducing and Radio X.
Now Larkins complete the year by sharing the new track ‘Make You Better’ on Good Soldier Records. It’s the first taste of their second EP which will follow early in 2020.
In contrast to the uplifting momentum of their recent tracks, ‘Make You Better’ takes a more introspective and minimalist style. Stripping back the production allows vocalist Josh Noble to shine, putting the focus on both the strength of his voice and his emotionally resonant lyrics. It’s a song which expresses sorrow for what’s lost, while also looking to happier times ahead.
“‘Make You Better’ is a song about waiting for the summertime,” says Josh. “I think when you’re growing up you don’t realise how important your grandparents are and how benevolent they seem. Losing them was tough but it’s even harder when you still have so much more to say. Hopefully, I got this song right, it’s our most personal release to date.”
‘Make You Better’ was produced and mixed by Dan Nigro, whose previous credits include Lewis Capaldi, Sky Ferreira and Freya Ridings.

Originally from Glossop in Derbyshire, Larkins are now based in Manchester. Josh Noble and Dom Want (guitar/synth) first started making music together at school, but things really progressed in college. The duo would write song ideas together in their English class, before sneaking into the studio after hours to bring those songs to life. Their sound was broadened when Henry Beach (bass/synth) and Joe Gaskell (drums) were added to the line-up.
Highlights of Larkins’ touring throughout the year have included a sold-out homecoming show at Manchester’s 2200 capacity Albert Hall (as captured in their accompanying live album), festival dates including Reading, Leeds and SXSW, and a tour as guest to Love Fame Tragedy, a new project from The Wombats’ frontman Murph.
The band are currently completing a huge UK and Ireland headline tour stretching across over 30 dates. Numerous shows have sold-out, with far in excess of 4000 tickets already sold. The remaining dates are:
