Pulp frontman and broadcaster, Jarvis Cocker joins forces with British conductor Charles Hazlewood for a one-of celebration of the music of legendary, Gerry Anderson TV puppet show Thunderbirds at the Colston Hall, Bristol on Tue 1 December 2015.
Alongside Cocker in Hazlewood’s All Star Collective will be Adrian Utley, guitarist in legendary Bristol trip-hop band, Portishead and Will Gregory, multi-award-winning songwriter and instrumentalist of Goldfrapp, as they celebrate the 50th anniversary year of the classic British science-fiction series, alongside theme music from Anderson’s other iconic 1960s television shows. The collective will be accompanied by the British Paraorchestra, the world’s only professional ensemble of disabled musicians.
Written by British composer, Barry Gray, the Thunderbird’s theme tune and other dramatic scores sit alongside the most iconic of film and television soundtracks of all time. Gray, who died in 1984 at the age of 75, was also responsible for most of Gerry Anderson’s AP Films’ other memorable musical moments, including the themes for Fireball XL5, Stingray, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons and Joe 90.

Hazlewood, conductor and Artistic Director of the Paraorchestra and All Star Collective said:
“We will be bringing back to life all the iconic hits of composer Barry Gray, in the 50th anniversary year of the launch of Thunderbirds. Expect high octane, big band-fuelled live renditions from this hit TV series, alongside timeless classics from shows including Stingray and Captain Scarlett. We even have Gray’s original Ondes Martinot, the old-school futuristic electronic instrument, which is the sound of the Mysterons.
“Jarvis shares our passion for this music, and is as delighted as we are about putting it back on the map. He joins my All Star Collective and members of the British Paraorchestra in a unique musical adventure. From Stingray to Dangerous Game via ‘I wish I was a Spaceman’ and Supercar, these are pocket rocket British classics.”
The special concert is a one-off event, scheduled only to be performed to mark the 50th anniversary celebrations of Thunderbirds’ first transmission. Rapturous crowds greeted the show’s premiere which took place on The Park Stage at the Glastonbury Festival in 2014.
The Paraorchestra famously performed at the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games and previously at Colston Hall’s Fast Forward Festival in May 2015.
