JAMES GILLESPIE Shares new version of ‘SOMEDAY SUNDAY’ Feat: NATTI SHINER of FICKLE FRIENDS

2019 saw James Gillespie raise his profile in style. Not only did he release his debut album ‘Safe.’, but he also earned airplay from Beats 1 (via Elton John!) and Radio 1, and completed a debut European headline tour that included a sold-out London show at Dingwalls. In the process, Gillespie accumulated 72 million streams in the last twelve months alone – a tally that continues to grow by another 3 million each month.

Today James shares a new version of the fan favourite ‘Someday Sunday’, which features Fickle Friends’ vocalist Natti Shiner. It comes as he prepares to play his first North American headline shows in New York and Los Angeles.

‘Someday Sunday’ captures James Gillespie’s rare ability to express hefty emotions through intimate songwriting. As ever, his voice demands attention: a luscious, commanding vocal gift that amplifies the fervour of his poignant lyrics. The original is given fresh impetus courtesy of Natti Shiner, who proves to be the perfect match for James’s talents. She delivers a soulful verse before joining him for harmonies on the song’s climactic hook.

The two artists were introduced by the track’s co-producer Andy Hall (Bastille), who also previously produced vocals for Shiner on tracks from Fickle Friends’ Top 10 debut album ‘You Are Someone Else’.

“Someday Sundays is about an escape from whatever is normal. I spent so long living on islands under the sun that when I moved to London I forgot how to getaway. Everyone needs space to breathe, travel and escape from their lives. It helps find out who you are and shows you what’s important… turn your phone off… and let it all out,” says James.

The accompanying video continues that escapist theme. It was entirely filmed by James using a camera built-in to his sunglasses. It captures every moment of his day as he escapes London for a day out in Brighton.

He adds, “I wanted people to see how easy it is to get away from your world. You don’t need a plane or a beach or even friends. Just get up and go. That’s why I decided to film everything using glasses with a built-in camera. No actors, no budget, no bullshit. I wanted people to get a real sense of how it feels to escape for a while. Maybe next time I’ll go a little further!”
