INTERVIEW with Lucky Harmon, talking about “Party Life”

Pop-dance singer-songwriter Luck Harmon probably looks familiar. You may have seen him in Fate of the Furious, Pitch Perfect 3, or Wonder Woman 84. Or maybe on The Vampire Diaries or House of Cards. His latest music video, “Party Life,” featuring Bboy Fidget, follows his last hit single, “Idolize Me,” which scored a slot on Billboard’s Top 40.

Lucky began making waves back in 2009, releasing his first EP, Welcome to My World, followed by 2015’s Luckysworld EP, and his latest offering, Luckysworld 2020 Tha LP. If that’s not enough, he’s currently working on a number of projects, including The Good Lord Bird, The Walking Dead, The World Beyond, Shazam, Wonder Woman 84, and Empath.

XS Noize caught up with Lucky Harmon to talk about the inspiration for “Party Life,” along with how he’s been handling the coronavirus situation.

How did you get started in music? What’s the backstory there?

I’ve been doing music since my early childhood. It has always been my passion to be an entertainer, writing songs on life experience and situations, as well as being a positive influence to other people in society.

What singers/musicians influenced you the most?

I’m influenced by artists like Justin Timberlake, Usher, Justin Bieber, Mario, Black Eyed Peas, David Guetta and Pitbull.

Which artists are you listening to right now?

I’m currently listening to Eminem, Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, Pitbull, Usher, Mario, Justin Bieber, Notorious Big, Da Baby, Lil Baby, 2 Chainz, Travis Scott, Snoop Dogg, Tyga, and Chance The Rapper.

As an artist, what’s been your biggest challenge so far?

My biggest challenge so far has been getting the recognition I deserve. I’d like to tour with a major artist, secure a major label deal – big exposure.

Is your sound evolving? If so, in which direction?

My sound is always evolving. I’m in the ‘mainstream pop’ genre of today’s pop superstars.

How do you keep your sound fresh and avoid coming across as derivative?

The way I keep my sound fresh is by working with new producers and getting new beats. I stay in the mix with today’s music and will continue into the future.

What is your songwriting process?

The songwriting process consists of a lot of different things. It’s too much to really talk about but I start with something that inspires me: often a captivating beat or someone’s life.  Then I move to the studio and that’s where the process begins. Being in the studio definitely takes me to a whole different level.

Why do you make music?

I love making music. I have fun doing it. I want to be a positive individual that inspires others through music as well as entertaining others.

What was the inspiration for your new single/music video “Party Life?”

The inspiration for the “Party Life” came from “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus. I feel it’s important to try to enjoy life and what’s more fun than partying?

Where was the video shot and who directed it?

The “Party Life” music video was shot in Atlanta, Georgia and directed by Elan Brooks and Executive Producer Aziz Choukri.

How did you hook up with Bboy Fidget?

I was introduced to Bboy Fidget at a recording studio in Atlanta by my production team.

How are you handling the coronavirus situation?

The coronavirus situation has literally shut down a lot of my work and my anxieties have been through the roof. But I’ve been doing better. I had COVID back in February and I got through it by the grace of God. I’m currently doing new music, marketing, and promotion – plus a lot of social media and digital billboard marketing.

Looking ahead, what’s next for Lucky Harmon?

What’s next for me is I have a movie that I’m producing as well as a documentary that I’m producing and a TV series. New music and videos are also on the way.
