Today, the unorthodox and innovative rocker Des Rocs releases his highly anticipated debut album ‘A Real Good Person In A Real Bad Place’. Ahead of the release, Des sat down with XS Noize to share his TOP TEN FAVOURITE SONGS. I’m sure you will agree it’s a diverse selection of classic songs. Listen BELOW:

Nirvana – Breed

This energy of this introduction, the build, the sonic image – it is perfection.

Prince – Take Me With U

There’s a sort of magic & dissonance to this song that transports me to another universe.

Edith Piaf – Dans le Prisons de Nantes

A haunting push & pull of emotion. This is literally like Donda.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll

As a kid, I remember hearing this and just being blown away by the darkness and raw bombast of it all.

Bruce Springsteen – Land of Hope and Dreams

A beautiful story told through a kinda fairy-tale lens of optimism. Resonates with me immensely.

Tina Turner – Better be Good to Me

The live version of this one especially gets me every time they build and build and build.

Barbara Streisand – Make it Like a Memory

IMO this is one of the most underrated songs of all time. It’s basically Babs’ Bohemian Rhapsody.

Nine Inch Nails – Head Like a Hole

An iconic record that embodies everything I love about this era, where the chorus feels like this massive scream of relief,

Kanye West – I am a God

A song that is still ahead of its time today.

Queen – Staying Power

One of Queen’s kinda experimental records. Live, they totally flipped it, and that version is soo technical and fun.

All of the above artists embody a fierce sense of individuality. They are intensely emotional and defined by intangible energy that resounds through the decades. These artists were not constrained by the narrow boundaries of their times or the expectations of others.

These artists are unapologetically themselves, and their music is both artistic and unquestionably massive in scope. They defied trends and scenes to pioneer new musical synergies that spoke to who they were as human beings, artists and entertainers. – Des Rocs
