Swedish extreme progressive metal band Meshuggah visited Nottingham on the 26th of May. Thanks to their sound and approach to music, Meshuggah is considered one of the technical “math” metal genre leaders amongst its fans.

Even before the band came up on stage, it was evident that the gig would be intense, to say the least. The amount of sound and light equipment surpassed any other band that had performed at the Rock City before. Meshuggah’s performance can only be described as brutal, mind-blowing and not for the soft-hearted.

Intense flashing lights combined with their powerful signature sound was, almost literally, mind-blowing. Another interesting thing that could be observed during the gig is the lack of phones in the audience. There was no “no-photo policy”, but it was evident that the band has a lot of respect from their fans, hence the lack of phones spotted in the crowd.

Zeal & Ardor are supporting the band’s current tour, but, unfortunately, they couldn’t perform in Nottingham due to someone from their crew testing positive for covid. We wish them a speedy recovery and hope that Zeal & Ardor visit Nottingham soon.
