HOOTON TENNIS CLUB surprise release a new single today, featuring original Line up

Hooton Tennis Club releases new Double A-side ‘ Monsoonal Runoff ’ and ‘People Want People Who Want People’ on Bandcamp today, Friday 1st of May 2020. Formed in 2013 by four childhood friends, Hooton Tennis Club deal in melodic, wonky, witty, poetic, pop music. Definitely, defiantly pop.

Their 2015 debut album Highest Point In Cliff Town and 2016’s Big Box of Chocolates, both released on the legendary label Heavenly Recordings, spawned a series of slack summer hits. Jasper’, an ode to a lost grandfather, was described by Lauren Laverne as her song of 2015 and ‘so far up her street, it was in her wardrobe’. ‘P.O.W.E.R.F.U.L P.I.E.R.R.E’, a track detailing a cartoonish colleague, defined the band’s skewed sound and oddball narratives. ‘Katy Anne Bellis’, an off-kilter lament meditates on friendship and flatshares in all their ephemeral glory.

2020 marks the release of two new songs. ‘Monsoonal Runoff ’, where themes of ‘splendid’ isolation and aimless drift at sea are explored through a track of languid, lackadaisical melody and ‘People Want People Who Want People’, a song about connection, reflection and the perpetual struggle of finding meaning but keeping light.

A tour had been planned for the end of Summer 2020 but with the current unprecedented situation, the dates are now on hold. However, the singles that were accompanying the announcement will be released on Bandcamp on Friday the 1st of May 2020.
