HIFI SEAN & DAVID MCALMONT release video for debut single ‘The Skin I’m In’ - Watch Now

Hifi Sean & David McAlmont will release their first single together on Hifi Sean’s Plastique Recordings imprint through the distributor Republic Of Music on the 29th of April 2020. ‘The Skin I’m In’ will be available digitally from all major outlets and is the first indication of what to expect from the eagerly awaited debut album ‘Happy Ending’ which is due to arrive later this year.

Whilst recently sitting in for Mary Anne Hobbs, renowned producer and DJ The Blessed Madonna played the track exclusively on BBC6 Music, which led to 6 making it a ‘Pick of the Week’ on the station.

‘The Skin I’m In’, set to a gorgeous backdrop of dusty hip hop breaks over an Ennio Morricone influenced soundtrack and David’s rhyming verses belies the deeper message of the ongoing social injustices faced by the black community in today’s world. Accompanied by a stunning video by Arber, the new track is the near-perfect teaser for the album.

Sean and David’s is a tale of two like-minded souls, journeying through similar paths, both equally well versed in the music industry’s highs and lows. Hifi Sean reached the fevered peaks of success with ‘I’m Free’, the hit single from his then band The Soup Dragons. He then went on to make a name as a sought after DJ, and in 2016 released the critically acclaimed album ‘FT’, with a role call of fabulous collaborators, including Yoko Ono, Bootsy Collins and DavidMcAlmont – when the two first met and where the tale really begins.

David, similarly found himself catapulted into the higher echelons of success in the ’90s with McAlmont & Butler. The duo released the iconic ‘Yes’ in 1995 before David then went on to collaborate with equally iconic partnerships of David Arnold, Courtney Pine, Shirley Bassey and Michael Nyman. Somehow along the way he also found time to take a degree in History of Art & Architecture and now inspires/teaches degree level students. It’s safe to say that neither of them rested on their laurels.

Like minded but also opposites. Sean, is a larger than life, storytelling, effervescent Glaswegian and David an inquisitive South Londoner. It might not work on paper but in the flesh and on record it works beautifully.
