The video was directed by David Helman (Joey Bada$$, Flying Lotus, Blu), and shot in Morelos, Mexico. It was produced by Pulse Films.

Helman: “The concept for Black Mambo started with this theme of deception. As I was working out ideas and listening to the track, it always felt like the lightness of the melody was a mask for some darker narrative.

“The rest of the concept slowly grew from there where I began to develop this rabbit hole storyline and started blending that with the imagery from the album.”

2014 was a breakthrough year for Oxford’s Glass Animals, and far beyond the confines of the UK. It began in a whirlwind of deserved hype, with their limited edition vinyl EPs selling-out in hours, and as new tracks dropped online, the predictable place to seek them out was at the summit of the Hype Machine.

Produced by vocalist Dave Bayley, Glass Animals’ music has travelled very well indeed, gatecrashing the charts in Australia and landing as one of the buzz bands of 2014 in America. Each and every visit the band make back to the States finds them playing to bigger and bigger sold-out crowds, all gripped by a real sense of the wild, party atmosphere of their shows. Their success has become a tangible example to the word of mouth support that has soon developed from city to city and state to state.

Spotify have noticed their rising potential too, with the band’s most recognisable single Gooey landing a top 2 spot on their global and UK viral charts at the end of the year, and the band topping their Emerge Chart too.

2015 begins much as 2014 concluded, with the quartet out on the road playing to their biggest headline shows yet, including a sold-out show at Dublin’s Academy on March 14th.

Any downtime Glass Animals are fortunate to enjoy tends to find their vocalist in high-demand as a producer too, working with some of the most vital, fresh new voices in music.

Glass Animals are one of the most exciting, unpredictable bands of recent years, and in Black Mambo, they’ve another crucial example of their spiralling, left-of-centre pop music that finds these intriguing young men suitably peerless.
