George Cosby poetically explores the varied fortunes of romance through a widescreen lens. Applying a modern pop elegance to this everlasting emotion enamoured an expanding fanbase with his debut EP ‘We Stand Alone’. Its title track was B-listed at Radio 2, while further airplay for the project came from BBC Introducing, Jo Whiley at Radio 2 and Laura Whitmore at Radio 5.

Now George celebrates Valentine’s Day by sharing ‘Lonely Heartbeats’, his first single of 2022. Extending his evocative examination of relationships with a heartrending arrangement, the velvet baritone of his voice narrates a ‘will they? / won’t they?’ story. It’s a classically engaging plot for a romcom, but it’s also an experience that’s indelibly a part of so many of our lives – and one that leads to a rush of excitement and anticipation, but also fear and anxiety. Listen BELOW:

George says, “Lonely Heartbeats is a story of two people who have such a spark but remain only at the precipice of romance. There’s hesitation due to the risk of damaging a friendship. It’s full of grand statements and imagery sweeping from the rising tension and their pull to each other.

To my mind this isn’t young, innocent love but rather of relative experience. Added to the infatuation is the knowledge that the connection between them is rare. Why hold out because of fear, isn’t happiness worth the gamble? Isn’t having that kindred spirit to explore, dance and find comfort with worth baring your soul?”

‘Lonely Heartbeats’ was written by George and Dane Etteridge, produced by Oli Bayston and mixed by the Grammy-winning Dan Grech (The Killers, George Ezra).

Mixing a majestic vocal with a modernist style flavoured with throwback influences and his own distinct aesthetic, George feels a male equivalent to Lana Del Rey, Florence + The Machine or Arlo Parks. He poses questions about the nature of infatuation and a desire to embrace new experiences. That blend of cinematic style and literary lyrics feels in tune with two of his heroes as if he’s this era’s answer to a Leonard Cohen biopic directed by Paolo Sorrentino.

‘Lonely Heartbeats’ is the first new music from George as he lines up his next body of work. Next however, comes his debut European headline tour, which culminates in the suitably beautiful surroundings of London’s St. Pancras Old Church. Tickets for the dates, listed below, are available here:
