Other Voices will be returning to the vibrant city of Belfast for a second time from June 14th to June 16th, showcasing an array of fantastic musical and cultural events. Today Other Voices is delighted to announce the remaining events that will be put on as part of this very special weekend.
FIFTY – THE GIVEN NOTE – SUPER SUNDAY BREAKFAST SESSION
On the 14th of June, Other Voices Belfast will kick off with a unique version of one of the Duncairn Centre’s signature events, FIFTY. FIFTY is an intimate music and arts event, suitable for a wide spectrum of creativity ranging from spoken word to live music, visual art, photography, and whatever else occurs. With a maximum of 50 guests, members of the community are encouraged to come along and join in the conversation on range of pertinent topics. The topic up for discussion at the Other Voices edition of the event will be ‘creativity and how it shapes our future’ musical guests on the night will include folk duo Lemoncello, poet and spoken word artist Colin Hassard and alternative folk musicians Ríoghnach Connolly and Stuart McCallum.
On the 15th of June The Given Note will take place in the Duncairn Centre for Culture and the Arts. A discourse, with live music performance, exploring the question of how music affects reconciliation, celebrates diversity and tradition and gives a voice to this generation’s concerns regarding identity, isolation and plurality. The event will also encompass a conversation around Belfast as one of the world’s great musical cities and highlight the city’s relationship with Nashville. The music and song that has left Belfast over centuries in the heads, the hands and the feet of immigrants has left an indelible thumbprint on the making of the Great American songbook and on country music and bluegrass in particular.
The final event that will take place as part of the Other Voices programme will be a specially curated version of the Duncairn Centre’s Super Sunday Big Breakfast Session event on the 16th of June. Super Sunday Big Breakfast Session’s offer members of the community the opportunity to engage with high quality artists and performers over Sunday brunch, with live music, resident DJ and arts and crafts for the kids. The theme of the Other Voices edition of the event will be ‘Music, Reconciliation & the Future’.
Once again, Other Voices will be collaborating with the Duncairn Centre for Culture and Arts and 174 Trust to bring this dynamic event to Belfast with the support and investment of RTÉ, Belfast City Council, The Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
