DEPARTMENT M – Stream ‘Bleak Technique’ B-Side ‘Long Way Into Your Heart’ – Listen

TRACK OF THE DAY: DEPARTMENT M - 'Bleak Technique' - Listen

Leeds duo, Department M, are pleased to be streaming ‘Long Way Into Your Heart’, the b-side from their new single ‘Bleak Technique’ which is out now on limited edition 7” vinyl via independent label Hide & Seek Records. Alongside a pair of co-headline dates with Post War Glamour Girls in August, they also play a free entry show at Birthdays in Dalston, London on 10th October.

Sharing similarities with the driving, dark electronica of artists like Gesaffelstein and Daniel Avery, the b-side is an interesting glimpse at an alternate side of front man Owen Brinley’s multi-faceted musical output – a track that didn’t quite fit alongside the rest of the band’s material but was just too good to be left on the cutting room floor. The whole affair is given a melodic boost by a beautiful vocal delivery from Snow Fox who also appears on the A-side, with expert production from long-time collaborator James Kenosha.

“’Long Way Into Your Heart’ is an out-take from our forthcoming LP” says Brinley of the new song “It’s a track I’ve sweated over but just couldn’t get to work with the other material on the album. It’s perhaps the purest electro track Dept.M have released, with slight tinges of Deep House and a glorious 90s pop hook delivered by Snow Fox, who provides vocals on both sides of the single. I stripped back and re-recorded this track after spending time working in Ibiza last summer, trying to achieve a more minimal sound.”

With performances at Beacons Festival and Live at Leeds under their belts, plus support from NME, Clash Magazine, Drowned In Sound, Loud and Quiet, Amazing Radio and more already, Department M continue work on their eagerly awaited debut LP.

‘Bleak Technique’ is released on 7” vinyl 7th August via Hide & Seek Records
