Declan McKenna is pleased to share the video for new single, My House. The video, directed by Jake Passmore of the band Scors, is a curious fever dream state, with Declan taking his ramshackle property to the waves whilst a news channel reports continued peril at the mainland. Declan posits himself on the roof to hang his laundry, fish for sustenance and befriend and dance with a friendly patchwork seahorse creature as the sea takes a tumultuous turn.
My House is the first music shared by Declan since his second album debuted at number 2 in the UK album chart last year.
Speaking of the new track, Declan explained: “I’m used to feeling isolated from people I want to see, it’s been a big part of my life since I was a teenager touring and so on. With My House I was diving into this daydream of running away and becoming reconnected. I was just having fun on a sunny spring morning making the best out of what soon wouldn’t feel so restful and calm. But it’s a light-hearted song and for me it is just that – remembering what it is to be lost in your thoughts in a good way, like being a child again.
“The song feels like it’s grown over the past year as I’ve grown closer with my loved ones for many reasons, and amongst all that I’ve moved house three or four times and even helped my parents move out of my childhood home. Being wary of keeping a personal life, talking publicly about those close to me is something I’m very careful about, but with this song I found a way to talk about love in a way that is fun but felt kind of real, and thankfully for my girlfriend it’s not set in an alternate reality dystopia or some stupid shit like that.”

Declan released his second album Zeros in September 2020, and following a very closely fought battle with the Rolling Stones in the UK album chart, he’s yet to play the record out live to his fans. With the tour now moved to August, there should be a real resonance with a record that’s connected in such a broad way. The tour will be preceded with a slot at Latitude Festival this weekend, with performances also confirmed at Reading and Leeds Festivals and Glasgow’s TRNSMT. Declan’s shows in Dublin and Cork have both been moved to May 2022, and will be followed by his rescheduled tour of Europe in the same month.
