MUSIC LEGEND DAVID BOWIE DIES AGED 69

David Bowie has died just days after his 69th birthday. The music legend passed away surrounded by loved ones following an 18-month battle with cancer.

The sad news – which came less than a week after his new album was released – was confirmed on his Facebook page this morning.

The post reads: “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. “While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”

Bowie – whose latest album has already been critically acclaimed – made a surprise comeback in 2013 when he suddenly released a new single on his 66th birthday with an album out just weeks later, his first for 10 years. His latest acclaimed album ‘Blackstar’ was released on Friday his 69th birthday.

The star, who grew up in Bromley, south London, kicked off his music career in the R&B boom of the early Sixties – first making it in the charts with 1969 hit Space Oddity.

A string of albums followed, before 1972’s The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars made him an international star.
