Think back, if you can, to September 2019 when post-apocalyptic scenarios seemed a little further removed from daily reality, back when  “Burton and Mercer… made time to create a masterpiece” (MXDWN) in the form of “Good Luck”…

Well, since then, 2020 has long since said “Hold my beer,” and the ever-prophetic future dwelling duo of James Mercer and Brian Burton, collectively known as Broken Bells, have made a video for that song available in wide release. Previously available exclusively on TIDAL, the “Good Luck” video produced by Ian Blair and directed by Kimberly Stuckwisch and Nelson De Castro, distils the song’s brooding inexorable groove into one young boy’s journey from a troubled existence into the unknown.

In other news, due to the unfortunate mandatory closings of physical retailers, a very limited quantity of the vinyl single is once again available for sale directly via  https://brokenbells.kungfustore.com/all-product/good-luck-shelter-7-brk32.html.

While we await updates on the third full-length Broken Bells album (still in the works), the lyrics of “Good Luck” offer up a welcome and prescient note of optimism for these strangest of times:

“Where will it end? After the twilight, always a sunrise… Good Luck, my friend… In time, it ends”
