BRAND NEW FRIEND make Belfast live return at THE BLACK BOX on 16th October

Exactly nineteen months after the postponement of their last headline show in Belfast, Brand New Friend are ready to take to the stage once again.

Following the release of their EP ‘A Cure for Living’ in February 2020, Brand New Friend had planned a string of electric live shows across the country. After two successful dates in Kelly’s, Portrush and Fibber Magee’s, Dublin, news of the COVID-19 pandemic was beginning to spread worldwide. Their landmark headline gig in Voodoo, Belfast was pulled only a matter of days before the show was set to take place on Saturday 14th March 2020. The first national lockdown came into effect two days later.

Eager to stay connected with their audience, they spent their days in lockdown recording socially distant live sessions, even carrying out a ‘tour’ performing in various rooms of their home. However, the band are thrilled to finally swap virtual performances for live gigs.

Following the NI Executive’s recent announcement regarding the unlocking of hospitality and entertainment, performances at indoor venues will not have to be seated from Thursday 14th October. This means that the band’s rescheduled return to the stage at the Black Box on Saturday 16th October will be one of the first indoor standing concerts in the country in 19 months.

Speaking about their return to indoor live music, the band say:

“This feels like a great moment for not just our band, but for live music as a whole. It’s going to feel special getting back on a stage again, and we just want everyone there to have the best possible time. After 19 months away, I think we’ve all earned a night like this.”

While the band have been gearing up for the return of live music, they have been hard at work preparing their second full-length album, set to drop next year. Following the release of their debut record ‘Seatbelts for Aeroplanes’ in 2018, they shared stages with the likes of Snow Patrol, Ash, Lewis Capaldi, Feeder, Kodaline and more. It’s safe to say that their upcoming live shows are set to be a remarkable return.
