The four members of Blur came together once again on Friday night (29 March) at Leytonstone. The surprise performance was part of the Africa Express gig held by Damon Albarn as part of the Waltham Forest London Borough of Culture celebrations in Leytonstone.

Albarn was joined by bandmates by Dave Rowntree, Alex James, and Graham Coxon for Blur’s first performance since 2015. They played a version of ‘Clover Over Dover’ from 1994’s seminal ‘Parklife’ album for the very first time, as well as spirited renditions of ‘Tender’ and ‘Song 2’. “We haven’t sung it since 1994,” Albarn told the crowd before ‘Clover Over Dover’, “that’s not necessarily a good thing, right?” For “Tender,” the band was joined by the London Community Gospel Choir and Malian musician Rokia Traoré. ‘Tender’ was originally on their 1999 album 13, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.  Watch fan-shot videos of the performance below.
