BRIT and Mercury Award nominee Ben Howard released his 2nd full length album, I Forget Where We Were, in October. The album quickly found a place on the UK album charts. I Forget Where We Were is a strong follow-up to Howard’s debut Every Kingdom. Howard’s unconventional guitar work is showcased from the first track Small Things and shines on tracks Rivers In Your Mouth and Conrad.
I Forget Where We Were has the ballads that Ben Howard fans have become accustomed too. On the surface the album is mellow and chilled-out, but there is something percolating underneath that gives the album its drive. The album never really takes off, but that’s okay – it’s in the tender moments that Ben Howard’s moody and introspective lyrics are exposed. Despite the dark mood of the LP, I suspect this album translates well live.
There’s an incredible pool of British singer/songwriters out there including Dan Croll, Bobby Long, and Marcus Foster – Ben Howard continues to stand out among his peers.
