Belfast’s WYNONA BLEACH release video for new single 'Glimmer' - Watch Now!

Belfast’s own Wynona Bleach release single “GLIMMER” today, November 6th, the first track from their anticipated debut album Moonsoake.

Under their former moniker, R51, they self-released critically acclaimed EP’s, “Pillow Talk” and “NO CHILL” – and embarked on a 12 date headline Russian tour covering 6500 miles! – before changing their name in 2018, releasing first single “Eyes Burning” under Wynona Bleach. This was followed by the “Sugar” EP in August 2019. The band have done a number of live session appearances on BBC Radio as well as generating viral, word of mouth airplay through BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, KXLU (Los Angeles) and Seattle’s own seminal radio station, KEXP in the USA.

Produced by Bill Ryder-Jones (The Coral), “Glimmer” is the perfect feel-good, alt-pop song and your future festival anthem with a hook to kill. Lead singer, Melyssa’s vocals pop and harmonise perfectly alongside Jonny’s backing vocals and blistering lead guitar. It won’t be long before everyone starts singing along in their cars and dancing in their kitchens to the song.

“Glimmer was an instrumental with no lyrics right up until we had left for Portugal (to record the debut album). When we were at full swing as a music-making machine, Jonny left the main studio and spent the day on the roof of the house we stayed in and wrote the lyrics there in a day. We recorded the vocals that evening, with group gang vocals in the warehouse. It’s a song about self-manipulation and feeling uneasy in your own brain.”

Having just been invited to play this year’s virtual Ireland Music Week, the band are no strangers to big shows; performing at Reading and Leeds Festivals, a televised Belfast Ulster Hall show with SOAK, The Divine Comedy and Therapy? which celebrated 30 years of BBC Introducing in NI. They have supported Feeder, The Slow Reader’s Club, Lonely the Brave and their biggest shows to date: being personally invited to support the mighty Alice In Chains for their sold-out 1600 capacity venues in May 2019, in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre and Belfast’s Telegraph Building.

Following the Alice in Chains shows, the band hauled an entire studio 1,400 miles from Belfast to a villa in rural, central Portugal, along with Bill Ryder- Jones, where they lived and worked in an abandoned factory to create their debut album. With glorious indie alternative rock tunes reminiscent of acts such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Curve, The Joy Formidable and Wolf Alice, their biggest year is about to drop in 2021 with the release of this long-awaited debut.

“Glimmer” is accompanying by a self-filmed and produced video, showcasing the fun, energetic, live side that Wynona Bleach is known for.

“We shot the DIY video on a Friday night between lockdowns in our friend’s forest. We blagged, borrowed and stole stuff to make it work with our friends and we stayed up all night to edit it before the weekend was out. The budget ended up being £6.”

To fund the first pressing of their album they ran a successful crowdfunding campaign whilst the record was being mixed during the lockdown. Their campaign reached 140% of their original goal within the first week. Preorders are still available here. So go on, dive in and ’take your best shot’.
