AMY MACDONALD shares video for new single 'Statues' - Watch Now!

Amy Macdonald continues to shine a light on her critically acclaimed Top 10 album ‘The Human Demands’ by sharing her new single ‘Statues’.

‘Statues’ is one of the biggest moments on ‘The Human Demands’. Constantly escalating its exuberant energy, it showcases Amy’s flair for rock, pounding indie energy and evocative lyricism. It’s a reflection on the house and the street that she grew up in, with a Springsteen-esque skill for depicting snapshots of ordinary life with a poetic slant.

“I look back and think of the times I spent in that house with my family and our dog Jackson and I smile,” she says. “My parents moved out of that house a few years ago and it was sad for us all, but especially them. But we’ll always have those memories. I’ve had so many people say that they love this song because of the imagery it creates. I think it’s because we all have those memories of the places we grew up in.”

The song’s reflective quality is given a fresh and invigorating twist in its accompanying video, which was directed by Jackson Ducasse. It puts the spotlight on The Statues, a pre-teenage girl band who are dictating their own destiny despite their young age. From the studio to the stage via a self-assured press conference, the trio hurtle through all the defining moments of the rock ‘n’ roll world. The result is a playful and engaging tribute to the rockumentary, which documents the band’s history in just four rollercoaster minutes.

She says, “So the almost inevitable rescheduling of the tour is here. I promise to put everything into every single gig and I can’t wait to sing along with you all again. For my UK friends, we are still trying to work out new dates and get out there again as soon as we’re allowed. Stay tuned!”

‘The Human Demands’ has now amassed over nine million streams. Amy celebrated the album’s release by playing a live stream show, which debuted a selection of new songs alongside favourites such as ‘This Is The Life’ and ‘Mr Rock & Roll’. The performance raised over £10,000 for #WeMakeEvents and fans can continue to support the live events sector by donating or buying merch via the movement’s website.

Amy Macdonald started the year by being named as the Independent Venue Week 2021’s official ambassador for Scotland. An ambassador was selected for each home nation as Amy joined Arlo Parks (England), Gruff Rhys (Wales) and Jordan Adetunji (Northern Ireland).

Amy comments, “So many artists thrust into the spotlight have this instant success, but when it comes to playing live they don’t have the experience or know what they’re doing – yet they’re somehow expected to fill an arena. That’s completely nonsensical. It matters to start at the bottom and work your way up. All of those experiences I had in smaller independent venues are what made me feel comfortable and confident in who I was. After I got signed, I never had that fear of playing live. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without all those venues.”

The first release under a new deal with Infectious / BMG, ‘The Human Demands’ extends the huge international success that Amy has achieved throughout her career into a new era. She has previously performed world tours in front of a total of 3.3 million people, accumulated over 200 million Spotify streams, landed four Top 5 albums (including her #1 debut) and sold six million albums. Her landmark hit, ‘This Is The Life’, topped the charts in ten countries.
