ALTERED IMAGES share brand new track ‘Home’ from upcoming album ‘Mascara Streakz’

Altered Images

Altered Images first came to prominence when Clare Grogran was just 19 years old. Their big hits – including ‘Happy Birthday’, ‘I Could Be Happy’ and ‘Don’t Talk To Me About Love’ – were characterised by their infectious youthful energy and Clare’s charismatic star quality. Forty-plus years later, they’re back. That iconic presence and zesty spark still shines through, but their new music has the wisdom of experience: life’s rich tapestry is like a big night out, so make the most of it while you can.

After a big reaction to their recent songs ‘Glitter Ball’, ‘Beautiful Thing’ and ‘Mascara Streakz’, Altered Images now share another new track in the shape of ‘Home’. All four songs will feature on the ‘Mascara Streakz’ album, which follows on August 26th via Cooking Vinyl.

‘Home’ is sublime, joyous adult pop based on the finest traditions: timeless songwriting, big on rousing vocal harmonies and an instantly memorable hook, and equally uplifting disco traits played with the warmth and tightness of a stellar live band. Clare sounds like she’s relishing every line she delivers in a song which celebrates a simple fact: wherever you travel and whatever adventures you can embark upon, nowhere is quite as comfortable as being at home.

Clare wrote ‘Home’ with Stephen Lironi, Bobby Bluebell (aka Robert Hodgens) and current Mercury Prize nominee Bernard Butler (‘For All Our Days That Tear The Heart’ with Jessie Buckley). The former Suede guitarist also produced the track, which was written around his kitchen table just around the corner from Clare’s home in Crouch End, London.

Clare says, “What a special moment it was when Stephen, Robert and I went round to Bernard’s house and wrote this song together around his kitchen table. I loved the idea of us all collaborating. It’s about finding your way back to a place of comfort and stability after a big emotional storm. Coming home has saved me many times. We all sing on it as well which I’ll have to insist we recreate live at some point soon.”

Altered Images’ recent shows have been praised by The Telegraph (“Clare Grogan’s giddy, high-kicking return has all the power of her youth”) and Louder Than War (“What could have been only a nostalgia trip was averted by the promising new material and the vitality of the performance”).
