ALBUM STREAM: Arthur Kay’s self-titled EP - Listen Now

Today XS Noize is pleased to exclusively stream Arthur Kay’s self-titled EP. Drawing on the disparate influences such as Thundercat, James Blake, and Sun Ra, Oslo-based Arthur Kay is on a mission to spread the gospel of Moog across Norway and eventually the world.

With soft beats and melodious vocals, recent single ‘Higher Ground’ is the perfect blend of mellow grooves and emotive lyrics. Arthur tells us that “lyrically it is about the silence and calmness that comes after a big emotional and chaotic event. Those days or weeks where you feel that if you just put everything in your life on hold, to make it through the next hour without remembering or engaging in those memories, you’ll just barely make it through”.

A collaborator on many other musical projects such as the galactic jazz music of Dr. Kay and His Interstellar Tone Scientists and Norwegian rapper Ivan Ave, this was a chance for Arthur to make art without compromise, elaborating that “Higher Ground was as a sort of tribute to Balearic House. It was one of the first times musically that I had something that was just for me. A lot of the work you do as a professional musician is taking small pieces of yourselves and giving them away to other people’s dreams and visions.”
