ALABAMA 3 Celebrate seminal album "Exile on Coldharbour Lane" with a "Best Of" set and first ever headline show at O2 Academy Brixton

Alabama 3 are heading back to their roots for a headline show in the neighbourhood’s most famous live music venue, O2 Academy Brixton, as well as announcing shows across the UK this December. More than two decades since the release of their monumental debut Exile on Coldharbour Lane, Alabama 3 will celebrate this iconic album in 2019 playing it in its entirety alongside a hit-filled, ‘Best Of’ set at O2 Ritz Manchester, Barrowland, Glasgow, O2 Academy Bristol, culminating with a date in London at O2 Academy Brixton, their first ever headline show at the venue.

Released in November 1997, Exile on Coldharbour Lane was Alabama 3’s debut album and a huge tribute to the South London area where the band formed which of course influenced the material the band created at this time. Receiving rave reviews from the likes of Pitchfork (8.9), the album featured some of Alabama 3’s most important tracks to date, including what would become the theme tune to HBO’s legendary TV series The Sopranos, ‘Woke Up This Morning’.

Following the album’s release, Alabama 3 hit the ground running with their eclectic rock, dance, blues, country, gospel and spoken word mash-ups. Going on to achieve international fame, they have been sampled by the likes of Nas and Jay-Z and deemed “the best live band in the UK” by one of the UK’s most respected newspapers, The Guardian.

Their thirteenth studio album, Blues, released on their own Brixton-based independent label Hostage Music in 2016, proved that after 21 years, their fire was still burning as brightly as when they released Exile on Coldharbour Lane. Maintaining their loyal following and with plenty of new additions to their fanbase, Alabama 3 continue to tour regularly, playing sell-out shows and festivals across the country and Europe. Now, Alabama 3 are ready to bring their holy-rolling, narco-evangelism to stages again and what could be more fitting than coming back to where it all first began; playing their earliest material and a show in their adopted hometown of Brixton.

Larry Love says upon the announcement of this upcoming tour:

“From the back streets of Brixton we came, blazing with dreams of Hank Williams and Lee Scratch Perry, tooled up, locked down and loaded for long enough to remember what you should never forget. We are the original purveyors of sweet pretty country acid house music…You are hereby invited to come down and lose your blues and find salvation in what got us shaking in the first place. We are playing our eponymous Album, “Exile on Coldharbour Lane” in full for the first time in our illustrious career. Let’s go back to church and help us find Peace in the Valley because You Woke Up This Morning…and got yourself a gun.”

With influences including; B.B. King, Hank Williams, Bobby Rush, Rosco Gordon, Howlin’ Wolf, Ma Rainey and Fats Domino, Alabama 3 have brought the blues style forward and mixed it with some unlikely partners in acid house and techno to create a sound like no other. Expect the unexpected. Do you feel the spirit?
