VIDEO PREMIERE: Johanna Amelie - ‘Palermo’ - Watch Now

Having been ensconced in the studio working on her debut album ‘Distance’ co-produced by Gordon Raphael (The Strokes), Johanna Amelie is pleased to announce details of a brand new track ‘Palermo’ due this March. ‘Palermo’ follows previous track ‘Lion Babe’ lauded by Lauren Laverne on BBC 6 Music and is once again accompanied by visuals that portray Amelie’s charm and elegant fragilitBerlin-based.

The Berlin-based singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer details the track: “This song is a declaration of love to the city of Palermo. I wrote this song when I was touring Sicily for the first time. I was deeply inspired by the whole atmosphere, the spirit of the island and its deep soul. The song is about the romantic idea of a spontaneous escape and a new beginning. It took me more than a year to finish the production of this song. I recorded around 15 different versions with different arrangements – only to decide that I actually like the original demo version best. My bandmate Matze Pröllochs played the percussion orchestra on this song and Gordon Raphael mixed it in Berlin.”

About the video, she goes on to add: “The music video was created in collaboration with 3 friends. Alex Wondergem (musician and filmmaker based in Accra), Danielle Roomes (dancer based in New York City) and Luisa Langenbeck (video artist based in Berlin). The scenes were shot in Accra, Ghana, when I was there, playing shows and participating in a music program organized by ‚Goethe Institute‘.”
