Dublin band Oh Joy unveil new single ‘Apple’ set for release 3rd November 2017. They’re aptly named for their apparent wry miserablism, which packs out the track alongside a wash of lush noise. Formed in 2015 over a shared love of Elliott Smith, Nirvana, sarcasm and, all things melodramatic, the three-piece bring together all these elements to deliver a punch of fuzz-driven indie pining.
Over the past year they’ve supported the likes of Pinegrove, Vant and Show Me The Body. And you can tell why – the influence of that particular brand of gloomy angst is very apparent in ‘Apple. It’s moody and dissonant, whilst remaining delicately melodic. Successfully combining that tricky pairing of songwriting sincerity and extreme dynamics, Oh Joy evoke compelling honest storytelling.
