TRACK OF THE DAY: GIRLS NAMES - 'RETICENCE'

Following on from a lengthy tour of the UK and Europe that saw them cross much of the continent they so ably conjured on recent third album, Arms Around a Vision, Belfast’s Girls Names today announce plans to once again hit the road in 2016, alongside debuting a video for the record’s incendiary opener ‘Reticence’. It’s a fitting cap-off to what’s been a great 2015 for the four-piece that they find themselves back on the live circuit so soon after their last run of dates.

In keeping with the continued activity within the Girls Names camp, the band are also unveiling a new clip for ‘Reticence’ – directed by Matthew Reed – that explores the contrast between human form and machinery. It’s a duality mirrored in the track where dogged humanity and discordant clang and clatter meet to stunning effect. Speaking of the video, Reed explains:

The band were keen to do something which drew on a tension between mechanical movement and the more organic rhythm of human bodies. I then put that concept through a kind of 80s art school filter, which felt in keeping with the mood of the song: using a lot of 16mm film as source material and a slightly old-fashioned approach to montage in the way it’s cut.

Furthermore, the band are pleased to announce they’ll be returning to Austin, Texas, next year to once again grace SXSW following a great reception for Arms Around a Vision in the US. A fitting conclusion to a whirlwind year and a hugely promising vision of what’s to come.
