Track of the Day: Bloom Twins - “Amnesia”

Meet Anna and Sonia Kuprienko, 19 year old identical twins from a small town called Brovary, a suburb of Kiev in the Ukraine. Now based in London, they are Bloom Twins, who refer to their style of music as “dark pop”. The girls like to merge several genres, by adding classical flute, harmonica and piano to modern electronic keyboards and diverse vocals.

After uploading their debut track, a reinterpretation of Kish Mauve’s “ Fahrenheit”, to YouTube in 2013, Bloom Twins made an impact on both the music and the fashion scenes. They are also both signed as models to Select Model Management and have appeared in fashion shoots for Vogue, i-D, Wonderland and The Untitled Magazine. Soon after, a support slot for Eels at O2 Academy in Liverpool was followed by Iggy’s artist of the week at MTV. 2014 saw numerous releases and videos bringing more attention – including an interesting take on Pharrell’s “Happy” in 2014 – the girls managed to transform a very upbeat track into something dark and haunting.

Bloom Twins appeared on various stages from such credible festivals like Brighton’s The Great Escape to Hermes’ Flaneur Exhibition in London and Heart, Ibiza.
2014 was also a busy year when they released a cover of Bob Marley’s “Get Up, Stand Up” #WeAreUkraine to show their support for Ukrainian citizens. The accompanying video features authentic footage from the uprising. Following its release, the girls were featured on BBC’s Newsnight with Jeremy Paxman and graced pages of broadsheet newspapers such as The Sunday Times and The Guardian as well as an appearance on BBC Introducing. A period out of the country halted momentum before they made a breakthrough appearance in Unicef’s “Imagine” campaign alongside heavyweights of music and media including Katy Perry and Will.I.Am.

Recently the girls struck up a friendship with Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes after he shot them for a feature in The Untitled Magazine. This subsequently led to him asking them to join the band on their Paper Gods tour which proved highly successful and now they are currently working on their debut album with him, due for release later this year. XS Noize brings to you their current single release “Amnesia” – to be taken from their forthcoming album. The track is a perfect example of the girls “dark pop”, serving up brooding, dual vocals against a sombre, electronic backbone. A sensual synth sigh introduces the song which is heavy in atmosphere and has a sultry edge that is very appealing. It has a catchy, strong chorus delivered with a smart and cool attitude – “Your love is giving me Amnesia, Giving, giving, giving me, Giving, giving, giving, me”.

Amnesia” shows that Bloom Twins have fulfilled their early promise and are set to be one of the most exciting new artists on the electro-pop scene.
Catch them tonight if you can as they make their debut London live appearance at “Birthdays” in Dalston, as part of Robomagic’s “Finding the Female Headliner” events, which showcases the best women –fronted acts around.
