GANG OF FOUR - ‘England’s In My Bones’ feat. Alison Mosshart - Listen

GANG OF FOUR
Academy 1 Stage @ 5.35 pm

Still basking in the glowing reviews Gang of Four’s most recent effort, this year’s ‘What Happens Next’, garnered from fan and critic alike, it seems the legendary Leeds punk-funk mainstay, Andy Gill, is ready to bring the party and the explosives to Gigantic this year…

“It’s going to be a great festival vibe; it’s cool to have so many artists that have such impressive catalogues… As far as the Gang of Four set is concerned, people can expect a really exciting set involving lots of classics but also a few from the new album. Gaoler has been with us for about three years now and has done so many gigs, he’s a truly dynamite lead singer.” – Andy Gill, Gang Of Four

HURRICANE#1

HURRICANE#1
Academy 1 Stage @ 4.30 pm

New line up. New album. New lease of Life. Confirming the long awaited comeback of 90s Brit Pop Creation sensations at the end of last year, Alex Lowe reveals he is a man reborn and that a revamped Hurricane#1 are all set to blow fans away at Gigantic this bank holiday…

” We can’t wait to get up on stage with the new H#1 line up and just give it some. I have been fighting cancer for over a year and had kidney failure – I should be dead at least 3 times. Some people didn’t hold out much hope, but hey I’m here with the band and I’m ready to Rock’n’Roll. We will play a lot of our hits and some new stuff from our forthcoming album” – Alex Lowe, Hurricane#1

The primitives

THE PRIMITIVES
Academy 1 Stage @ 3.30 pm

Since their reformation in 2009, Coventry’s frenetic indie-rockers The Primitives have had their nose to the grindstone, releasing new singles, EPs and even their first album in 22 years, ‘Spin-O-Rama’ (2014). With relentless touring proving their live show to be as thrilling as ever, the cult band will cut the Main Stage ribbon at Gigantic this year. Expect a hit fest and more says vocalist Paul Court…

“We’re looking forward to it, it’s a big place for us to play. We’ll be playing all the hits and early indie faves and a few songs of our last album Spin-O-Rama and maybe a cover or two. The line up is quite diverse – post punk to Britpop and I guess we’re somewhere in the middle of that. We’re on early, but we’ll definitely be hanging around for a bit to catch a few of the other acts” – Paul Court, The Primitives

SECOND STAGE
@ MANCHESTER ACADEMY 2

The High – on stage 10.00pm
EAT – on stage 8.25pm
Diesel Park West – performing their classic album Shakespeare Alabama – on stage 6.55pm

Eat

EAT
Academy 2 Stage @ 8.25pm

Hungry for more live shows after their surprise 2014 reunion last year, EAT’s man on the skins Pete Howard readies us for a set packed with all the treats we’ve come to anticipate from their cataclysmic gigs. Expect nuggets from the back catalogue and newies in this rare outing for the genre splicing alt-rockers as they crash onto the Gigantic Second Stage.

“We’re really excited to be coming to The Gigantic Indie All Dayer in Manchester to play it, plus it’s a privilege to be playing on such an awesome billing. We have put the EAT show together with some new songs, all the old songs and a couple of surprises.” – Pete Howard, EAT

MILLTOWN BROTHERS

MILLTOWN BROTHERS
Academy 2 Stage @ 5.35pm

A Lancashire band whom Gigantic are delighted to provide the platform for their comeback. Colne’s The Milltown Brothers proved fun in the region wasn’t limited to Madchester as they conquered the charts in 1991 with their transatlantic smash “Which Way Should I Jump?” and their playful debut ‘Slinky’. As they dust off the live cobwebs, Nian Brindle reveals why this will be a special one…

“The ‘Gigantic Indie All Dayer’ will be our first full live show for many a year, and also the first chance for us to play tracks from the new album-‘Long Road’… We’ll hopefully have a pedal steel player joining us for some of show. As well as the new stuff, we’ll be playing all the old favourites, ‘Which Way Should I Jump’ ‘Apple Green’ and ‘Here I Stand’, so a great show to look forward to.” – Nian Brindle, Milltown Brothers

DIESEL PARK WEST

DIESEL PARK WEST
Academy 2 Stage @ 6.55 pm

Diesel Park West’s immersive live show comes to Gigantic’s second stage complete with the tantalising promise of their boundary pushing début album ‘Shakespeare Alabama’ played live and in full especially for the bash. Maverick lead singer John Butler explains why this will be a communal experience for band and audience alike…

“We are looking forward to people having the opportunity to home in on the way we perform, sonic-visual voyeurism if you like. The band has grown older together almost like a statement of original intention fulfilled despite being largely ignored in mainstream indie consciousness. People will dig us.” – John Butler, Diesel Park West

ACOUSTIC STAGE
@ MANCHESTER CLUB ACADEMY

Echobelly – on stage 10.00pm
The Woodentops – on stage 8.25pm
Mark Morriss – on stage 6.55pm

echobelly

ECHOBELLY
Acoustic Stage (Club Academy) @ 10pm

After occupying the front lines of Brit-Pop with Echobelly, Glenn Johansson and Sonya Madan switched off the amps to pursue new projects of a calmer temperament. Special reunion shows since 2009 see the pair rekindle the magic of their earlier work with captivating acoustic renditions, but Sonya explains exciting new plans on the horizon may make their Gigantic Acoustic Stage slot their last gig of this kind…

“This will probably be the last Echobelly Acoustic show that we perform as we’re putting together a full band for Echobelly to come back with a London show at The Scala on 6th October. It will be the last chance to hear the songs in a pared down way and in a more intimate atmosphere. It should be a vibey night with so many good bands performing.” – Sonya Madan, Echobelly

Mark-Morriss1

MARK MORRISS
Acoustic Stage (Club Academy) @ 6.55pm

Following suit on the Brit Pop reunion shows, it won’t be long until Mark Morriss is back in Manchester with his The Bluetones comrades once again for their 20th Anniversary. Before the gigs this autumn, reintroduce yourself to timeless indie tunes like old friends and highlights from his elegant solo career as Mark looks to deliver one of the day’s most memorable sets…

“It’s always special to play in Manchester, but this day promises a little bit of everything. Some personal longstanding favourites are on the bill so I’ll be spending as much time in the crowd as I will schmoozing in the VIP champagne bar.” – Mark Morriss, (The Bluetones)

THE WOODENTOPS
Club Academy Stage @ 8.25pm

As the glistening indie of The Woodentops’ opalescent debut album ‘Giant’ nears its 30th Anniversary, surely it is only appropriate that the band air tracks at a festival with a similar statement of intent. Having been firmly in the festival mind set for weeks already, ‘Tops main man Rolo McGinty intends to take Gigantic audiences on an out-of-this-world experience next weekend…

“There are some great bands who have made a mark in UK music history on the bill, as have we, but we will take you to another planet in our acoustic room at 8.25pm… I’m so focused on this upcoming performance its laughable! If my hands are unthinking and instinctively on it, I won’t have to concentrate on playing, just fly on the mic, really enjoy the show and deliver something ‘proper’ as they say. That’s the target.” – Rolo McGinty, The Woodentops

BOB
Club Academy Stage @ 5.35pm

Favourites of legendary DJ John Peel, indie pop champions BOB have reunited in 2015 especially for the Gigantic Indie All Dayer Vol.2. Twenty years since the London band split up and 23 years since they last played in Manchester, the festival is delighted to host a landmark on stage reunion for the cult band. Dean Leggett from the band gives the inside scoop…

“We’re looking forward to coming back to Manchester for the first time in 23 years, we always had great gigs there at the Uni and boardwalk… People can expect to catch a selection of old BOB songs, from very early to tracks from the Leave The Straight Life Behind album… and we will be playing tracks from our new Singles & Eps album out 18th May.” – Dean Leggett, BOB
